Managing Time
Increase output and earn more
The first step in managing time is to establish just where it has gone.
Unless you know how you are spending your time, you cannot take the steps necessary to save time. The way to find out where your time is going is to conduct a personal time audit. After all – it takes time to save time!
Take one typical day and analyze it in detail.
- About a week to ten days later, take one week and analyze each day in more general terms, detailing what you are doing.
- About three days after the initial time audit, make a checklist of the problem areas, and get ready to implement a plan to improve them.
How do you waste your time?
To determine how you waste your time, answer “yes” or “no” to the following questions.

You’re so consumed with how much you get, you waste your time with hate and regret.
-Madonna Ciccone
- I delay taking action.
- I tend to do things myself instead of delegating.
- I get involved in details.
- I do not prioritize.
- I take many telephone interruptions.
- I waste a lot of time in meetings.
- I don’t say ‘No’ often
If you answered “yes” to any of the above questions, you already have an idea of where your time-management problems – and their solutions – lie.
Golden Rules for Time Management:
- One thing at a time
- Learn to say NO
